Activities and facilities

The ethos of the residential homes seeks to promote the development of social behaviours, independence and personal skills, and to offer opportunities to practice then in real life settings. There is an emphasis on community inclusion as well as targeting skills in personal care and home management. Young people have plentiful opportunities to make choices and take part in regular physical activities, take up hobbies and visit facilities and attractions in the community.

Participating more fully in life

Our residential curriculum focuses on teaching young people independence skills. These are often broken down into smaller tasks so that the young person is able to achieve small successes and build on these achievements over a period of time, in turn increasing their confidence and self-esteem.

Our residential pupils are able to engage in a range of fun activities that are planned around their interests, such as:

  • Arts and crafts
  • Music
  • Hair care
  • Cooking

Accessing the community

All our residential students benefit from being able to regularly socialise with others. The home is designed to help our young people to make friends, participate in activities according to their interests and abilities and access the wider community. Off site visits include:

  • Swimming
  • Ice-skating
  • Eating out
  • Shopping
