As part of the investment a new respite unit for up to eight children and young people will also be opened in Lancashire to support young people and their families in times of need, providing flexibility, tailored packages and specifically designed programmes for short, medium and long-term respite care.
Oliver House School is a specialist co-educational day and residential school for boys and girls aged 6 to 19 with moderate to severe autistic spectrum conditions and associated learning difficulties.
Many of the young people at Oliver House School have been out of education for considerable periods of time. The school aims to encourage students to attend on a daily basis with support from the dedicated staff team.
Oliver House School adopts a multi-disciplinary approach to education and learning using best practice models. All students have access to the National Curriculum, which is adapted and modified according to the individual needs and abilities of each student.
Residential care is provided at four local off-site residential children's homes from 38 to 52 weeks of the year. Close links between education, care and therapy are maintained. Oliver House School also provides day placements for primary and secondary students.
