Queenswood School receives "outstanding" praise...

Queenswood School in Ledbury, Herefordshire, has been praised by education inspectors for the "outstanding" behaviour of its pupils. Queenswood School - HerefordshireThe specialist independent residential school provides education for girls and boys aged 11 to 19 with social, emotional and mental health difficulties (SEMH).

In its latest report, Ofsted, the independent education watchdog, said the school in Hereford Road was "good" overall for providing “extremely positive role models”, having strong governance and being compliant “with all independent school regulations”.

But inspectors singled out as "outstanding" the behaviour of pupils, and how they were kept safe.

Inspectors said there was “extremely careful and detailed monitoring of behaviour over time”.

They went on to praise the way the staff engaged with the children to create positive relationships, for example by providing a supportive environment at lunchtime when staff and pupils eat a nutritious meal together.

They were impressed with the teaching techniques used, particularly the way in which questioning was used to strengthen pupils’ abilities. They also praised the range of vocational activities available, including the opportunity to develop cooking or car mechanic skills.

Inspectors also lauded the fact that the school is highly active in promoting “spiritual, moral, social and cultural development”.

Welcoming the Ofsted report, school principal Michelle Reed said: “We look forward to continuing success. Queenswood School offers an excellent education, and we shall continue with our mission of helping our young people to create the best opportunities they possibly can.”

Mark Underwood, Chief Executive Officer of Priory Education and Children’s Services, said: “Thank you to everyone involved with the school. It is great to see that behaviour is 'outstanding', as this helps create the best environment possible for learning. I know that the staff at the school will continue to do their utmost to ensure the school progresses even further.”
