Coxlease School celebrates again...

A Priory Hampshire school which was recently rated "outstanding" by Ofsted, is celebrating again - after being awarded the prestigious title of Priory Group "Site of the Year".

The accolade means Coxlease School in Clay Hill, Lyndhurst beat more than 25 other specialist schools, and more than 300 hospitals and other healthcare facilities - all run by Priory Group, to scoop the prestigious title.

Priory's Education & Children’s Services division runs 26 schools for more than 1,000 children with Autism, Asperger Syndrome and other complex behaviours. Coxlease caters for children and young people with emotional, social, and mental health difficulties.

Steve McShane, Priory Education’s Director of Quality, helped Coxlease School celebrate its achievement with a special cake. He also presented pupils with a commemorative outdoor bench, with engraved plaque.

Karen Gaster, Principal of Coxlease School, said: "It was such a thrill to win 'Site of the Year' just after receiving our 'outstanding' rating from Ofsted.

"Priory does such important work, across very impressive sites, so to be singled out in this way was a real testament to the staff and all our pupils who have worked so hard and deserve this recognition.

"Staff enjoyed an afternoon of celebrations followed by a 'formal dress' celebratory party later in the evening.

"But it's the children who are our true focus, and we look forward to celebrating with them, and seeing what effect these two accolades - 'outstanding' and 'site of the year' have on their already buoyant spirits. They are as thrilled as I am."

Coxlease is an independent specialist school with six associated children's homes for boys and girls aged 8-18.

Ofsted, the education inspectorate, said a key to the school's success was the outstanding quality of teaching, learning and assessment. Inspectors added:

"In often a short space of time, the school is able to turn pupils’ attitudes into positive ones. Pupils quickly become confident learners and show a genuine passion for learning."
