Next Steps to Transfer

We’ll guide and support you through every step of the transfer process. The steps to take vary slightly, depending on whether you are caring for a foster child currently. If this is the case, you would:

  1. Get in touch with our friendly team
Call us on 01684 560333 or send a message via our enquiry form.
One of the team will contact you to tell you more about Aspris Fostering Services, discuss the transfer process and answer any questions you may have.

  2. Home Visit
We’ll arrange a visit to your home so we can talk in more detail and we’ll start gathering information for the application process. This is an opportunity for you to find out more about Aspris Fostering Services and there is no commitment to changing agency at this stage.

  3. Give written notice to your current agency and local authority If you decide you’d like to go ahead with the transfer after the home visit, you should tell your current agency and the local authority for the supported children as soon as possible in writing.

  4. Local authority meeting
The local authority will arrange a meeting to confirm that Aspris Fostering Services can meet the needs of the children and to agree a timetable for the transfer process. This will involve the relevant staff from the authority and your existing agency and we will attend this meeting with you.

  5. Application and assessment
We’ll support you through the application and assessment process, getting to know you and learning more about your fostering knowledge and experience.

  6. Approval Your application will be reviewed by a fostering panel who will then make a recommendation about approving you as a foster carer. The panel are a group of experienced and independent care professionals. When you receive approval as a carer from us, you can resign from your current agency. After the 28-day notice period is up, you officially become a Aspris foster carer.

If you do not have a foster child currently

The process is slightly simpler if you do not have a child already placed with you, in that the local authority will not need to arrange a meeting.

Once you’ve met with the Aspris Fostering Services team and made the decision to transfer, you should inform your current agency. After this, you will be supported by us through the application and assessment process right through to a decision by the fostering panel.
