Our experienced team of professionals have a deep and continually developing understanding of our students needs. As such, we are able to better cater for individual needs to help minimise associated behaviours through measures such as:
- Sensory rooms and spaces around the grounds
- Extensive grounds which enable movement breaks
- A large gym
- A number of specialist rooms, such as a Science Lab
- A range of well-equipped classrooms for Music and Media delivery
This curriculum area at Southern Peninsula Services (formerly Devon Education and Children’s Services) provides three qualifications: Sport and Active Leisure, Sustainability and The Duke of Edinburgh Award (DofE Award). We also have an option to deliver Countryside and the Environment if required. The Sport aspect focuses on fitness and the principles of individual and team sports and nutrition through BTEC Sport and Active leisure at Level 1 and Level 2. Traditional ‘outdoor pursuits’ (hill walking, climbing, mountain biking, kayaking) are completed through the John Muir Award and the Dof E Award.
Sustainability provides a good grounding in the key aspects of awareness and understanding for students, as well as performing practical activities associated with sustainability, such as recycling, using sustainable materials etc. Students will develop their academic skills through learning more about processes, habitats, machinery, economic and business values.
