Signs and symptoms of autism in teenagers

We strongly believe that community-based learning is the key to helping the young people at Sketchley School and Forest House to reach their potential. It helps them to understand how to behave in the ‘real world’ where there is not the same structure and routine as there is in a school setting. Developing an understanding of how to function in the community supports our young people to be as independent as possible.
The young people therefore are encouraged to spend half a day a week in the community, participating in various activities based on individual targets to develop their life skills. These include:
- Cinema
- Theatre
- Gym
- Swimming pools
- A variety of leisure activities
- Wide ranging educational experiences such as museums, outside learning environments, woods, playing fields and garden centres
- Shops and cafe’s
