Our Staff Team

Sedgemoor Manor School has a hardworking, diligent and caring staff team with extensive knowledge and experience of supporting children and young people with an autistic spectrum disorder (ASD) and specific learning difficulties associated with this diagnosis. They build exceptional relationships with young people that prepare them to learn and deliver the teaching, care and support that transforms their lives. Staff work closely together, applying a consistent and cohesive approach to learning and support that maximises its positive impact for our young people.

There is an emphasis on ongoing training and development for staff at our school that ensures their knowledge and practice remains up-to-date, innovative and effective. Our teachers have strong current subject knowledge that means a quality learning experience for our students. They are assisted by higher level teaching assistants and learning mentors, who support personal development and encourage engagement with learning.

“I saw my son’s anxiety levels drop within a couple of weeks of being at the school and I have full trust in the staff at Sedgemoor Manor School to continue their work with my son so his future is both productive and happy.”

Our therapy team

Our therapy team focuses on providing the intensive and tailored support our young people need to address the challenges that autism can bring, to engage with learning and with life in general. The team includes a speech and language therapist, occupational therapist and art therapist. They work side-by-side with our teaching staff, enabling therapeutic interventions to be incorporated into each school day so young people progress and develop as individuals.

A calm and nurturing approach

The whole staff team take a calm and nurturing approach to supporting our young people and follow the Thrive approach to promote their wellbeing. There is a focus on the principles of ‘unconditional high regard’, and the development and maintenance of outstanding trusting relationships, where children and young people are listened to and understood. Our approach to positive behaviour management is to understand a child’s triggers and to focus on meeting their underlying needs rather than the behaviour itself.

Every pupil at Sedgemoor Manor School has a school tutor who builds a strong working relationship with both the child and their family, ensuring they are regularly consulted and updated on progress. The deputy head and head teacher also offer an open door policy to parents, ensuring they are accessible and approachable and communication is effective and two-way.
