Admissions criteria

Sedgemoor Manor School is a mixed special school, providing education for young people aged 10 to 19 years. We are able to support pupils with autism and needs associated to this diagnosis, including:

  • Language disorders
  • Dyslexia
  • Dyspraxia
  • Dyscalculia
  • Students with high anxiety
  • Sensory processing difficulties

All current placements are funded by Local Authorities for children and young people who have EHCP’s but on occasion, places can be also funded privately.

The admissions process

Sedgemoor Manor School takes a highly individualised approach to admissions, considering each and every case in-depth to ensure that when we say yes, we know that we can always provide a high quality placement.

We will always consult with as wide a range of stakeholders as possible and will do all we can to gain as much information as we can from parents/carers, staff from previous schools, social workers, medical professionals and anyone else who we believe can assist us in accurately understanding the needs that are to be met, so that the placement can be successful.

The voice of the child or young person is critical too and we will include them at the centre of the process at a level that is appropriate in each case; some may want to be heavily involved, whereas others may not.

Once we feel that it is likely that we can meet the needs and that the Local Authority are supportive of us progressing, we will usually meet the young person either in their current placement, their home or at our school.

Once we are confident that we will be able to meet needs, we offer a place and usually, liaise with the Local Authority about how we can best support them with their decision making processes.
