Transitioning services

Our aim is to ensure that no pupil leaving Queenswood becomes NEET (not in education, employment or training). We support our students so that they are well-prepared to move on to the next stage of their life, whether this is going on to college or moving into the workplace. Our dedicated in-house careers’ coordinator is responsible for the transition planning for all of our students, providing personalised guidance for each individual.

Progressing towards individual aspirations

Staff at Queenswood work closely with young people, helping them to identify and progress towards their individual aspirations. We offer a wide range of support which aims to broaden our young people’s experiences, develop or acquire life skills and help them prepare for adult life. These include:

  • Studying for nationally-recognised qualifications such as GCSE’s and BTEC’s
  • Studying towards work-based qualifications
  • Offering a strong personal social development and employability curriculum
  • Opportunity to take part in the Prince’s Trust XL programme
  • Opportunity to take part in the National Citizen Service
  • Opportunity to take part in standalone workshops such as team building, First Aid, British Values, Sexual Relationship Education (SRE), substance misuse, Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) and housing

Year 9 pupils

We help Year 9 pupils to prepare for adulthood by focusing on getting them work ready. If an individual is interested in a particular area that isn’t already on offer, we will source support in that field. We have previously arranged work-based learning opportunities in:

  • Catering
  • Construction
  • Equine management
  • Computing
  • Mechanics

Year 10 and year 11 pupils

During Key Stage 4, students at Queenswood follow a specially designed ‘Preparing for Adulthood’ programme. This has a strong focus on employability, offering students:

  • Access to specialist careers advice and guidance
  • Access to employability workshops
  • The opportunity to take part in a work experience placement

Year 12 and year 13 pupils

Students are supported to explore a range of Post-16 routes, including:

  • Employment
  • Education
  • Training
  • Preparation for adulthood
  • Independent living skills
