Transitions are complex and often anxiety-provoking. Quay View School plans for transitions at every level, from activities within lessons, movement between classrooms, living arrangements to changing between on-site and offsite activities; all of which can raise anxiety and cause dysregulation.
Within the school, we work closely with Year 11, Year 12 and Year 13 students (those who are between 16-18), alongside a range of stakeholders. These include families, social workers, therapists, independent careers guidance and the college provisions, to design and present transition plans for those young people who are looking to move into their next phase of education and care.
We understand our young people’s complex needs and vulnerabilities, and strive to equip our students with a portfolio of qualifications and life skills for transitioning into a college or further education environment.
Quay View School has formed strong partnerships with local colleges to provide additional support to our young people. These include:
- Duchy College - Stoke Climsland – largely an agricultural college, but with sport, outdoor education and public service courses
- Saltash College – Art & design, beauty hairdressing & therapy, childcare & early years, computing, business, travel & tourism
- Plymouth College of Art & Design – Art, media, fashion & design
- Plymouth College of Further Education – A range of courses covering many facets of Further Education
