Activities and facilities

A purpose-built learning environment

Priory Lodge School was purpose-built to provide education for young people with high-functioning autism. Great consideration has been given to every element of the school’s physical design to support and facilitate our young people’s learning. Key features include:

  • A low arousal environment in a peaceful setting within private grounds
  • Wide corridors throughout the school building
  • Modern, spacious, bright and well-equipped classrooms and shared spaces
  • A simply ‘L-shape’ layout helps young people to access the rooms they need to easily and minimises confusion
  • The school purposely caters for a small number of pupils to ensure a quiet environment for those with high anxiety
  • Lift providing disabled access between floors

Specialist facilities

The school has a number of well-equipped specialist spaces to assist with academic learning and therapy development, including:

  • Food Technology kitchen
  • Design Technology workshop
  • Art studio
  • Science lab
  • IT rooms (with a second Computer Suite opening in September 2018)
  • Sensory Room (opening September 2018)

A regular calendar of events

Here at Priory Lodge School, we aim to develop a regular calendar of events to help our young people pursue their preferred areas of interest, build their confidence and self-esteem and develop the social skills they require to become valuable members of society. These include:

  • Regular Student Council meetings

Getting active

Priory Lodge School strongly encourages all of our pupils to get involved in sporting activities. Headed up by our full-time PE Teacher, our PE department offers a wide range of sporting opportunities both on-site and within the community. These include:

  • Outdoor gym (opening September 2018)
  • An on-site basketball court
  • Basketball team weekly training at Roehampton University Gym
  • Access to Roehampton University gym equipment

  • Three table tennis tables on-site

Learning outside of the classroom

We recognise that learning does not just take place within the classroom. Priory Lodge School places a great deal of importance on learning through accessing the community and daily living tasks. We support our young people to learn and develop their confidence as well as their social and independence skills through a range of trips, excursions and activities, such as:

  • Visits to educational places of interest eg. House of Commons, museums
  • Learning about shopping and budgeting at the local shops
  • Travel training
  • Accessing local parks
