Activities and facilities

Individual care plans

Each and every young person who arrives at Oliver House School has their own highly individualised care plan which includes details of the activities that they wish to take part in. As much as is possible, the care plan is developed in consultation with the young person themselves and their parents/carers.

Here at Oliver House School, we are always led by the individual’s preferences and interests, and that is particularly true when it comes to sporting and leisure activities: Whatever the young person is interested in, we will do our best to accommodate this. Our commitment to helping young people take part in the activities that they want to, has seen our pupils involved in everything from swimming to wheelchair basketball.

Tailored to targets

Whatever activities and interests a young person pursues, we are always mindful of their individual targets, as set out in their care plan, and what they are working towards. For example, if a young person wants to go bowling, we will look at how we can use the experience to help them develop their social interaction and communication goals.

Local attractions

Our four homes are ideally positioned to access a range of local facilities and attractions. The children and young people in our care can enjoy:

  • Walks in the surrounding countryside
  • Day trips to Blackpool
  • Outings to Southport beach
  • Visits to Formby nature reserve
