Our curriculum is aimed at meeting the challenges that each individual presents. Therefore, we have developed an individualised approach to our programmes of study. This highly individualised approach is supported by a very broad, dynamic, flexible but inclusive curriculum. The curriculum is built around the following seven areas, as set out in the Independent School Standards:
- Human and social
- Aesthetic and creative
The education across Devon Education and Children’s Services follows, where appropriate, the new National Curriculum at Key stages 2, 3 and 4. Our new school curriculum appropriately integrates the statutory programmes of study and age-related outcomes identified at crucial stages throughout our students’ education.
Additionally, our flexible curriculum incorporates a comprehensive programme for post 16 students. This is delivered through specific qualifications and in conjunction with other learning providers and is fully integrated into the progression pathways that we have identified for our students.
The nature of this curriculum component enables young people at Devon Education and Children’s Services school to progress from Entry Level 1, 2, 3 through to Level 1, 2 and 3 courses. It supports students across ‘age-related’ thresholds, which may have proven a barrier in other establishments, whilst retaining the rigour required by qualification bodies.
The curriculum supports all young people to become:
- Successful learners who enjoy learning, make progress and achieve
- Confident individuals who are able to live safe, healthy and fulfilling lives
- Responsible citizens who make a positive contribution to society
