Using therapy to help young people manage their conditions
Coxlease School is renowned for the innovative way in which it integrates therapy with education. The comprehensive package of therapeutic care received by each pupil helps them to become successful learners. Every individual benefits from a bespoke plan which has been designed by psychotherapists and occupational therapists to better understand themselves. We offer a range of in-house therapies which allow our pupils to express themselves without consequences and build a level of trust with their therapist. The overall aim is for the young person to understand the reasons for their behaviour, their trigger points and how to deal with issues when they arise.
Whilst Coxlease is a therapy-based school, we still deliver on academic results. We have found that unless a pupil is in the right head space to learn, they are unlikely to make progress in the classroom. By focusing on using therapies that help pupils to develop their communication and social interaction skills, we find that learners also begin to thrive academically.
