Activities and facilities

Coxlease School actively encourages pupils to take part in a range of activities according to their interests. We believe that recreational, cultural and sporting activities are key tools that can help young people to help build self-image, self-esteem and relationships.

Access to a range of sporting facilities

Coxlease School has a very strong sports department as well as a variety of on-site sporting facilities, including:

  • Basketball court
  • Outdoor fitness equipment
  • Football pitch
  • Extensive grounds for multi-sport use
  • Very large indoor sports hall
  • Air-conditioned gym

Pupils can also access a range of off-site sporting facilities, including:

  • Sailing at Lymington Marina

  • Artificial ski slopes

We offer a comprehensive physical education curriculum which gives pupils the opportunity to take part in huge variety of sports, including:

Enrichment

Every pupil at Coxlease School has timetabled enrichment learning outside the classroom. One afternoon per week, pupils will choose from a range of activities, all of which are objective-led and have clear outcomes. Our programme includes:

  • Visiting local swimming baths
  • Visiting the gym
  • Visiting the beach (approx. 15 miles away)
  • Visiting a bowling alley
  • Going to the cinema
  • Visiting museums
  • Visiting castles and other historic monuments
  • Gardening in the school’s horticulture area
  • Educational trips to London (e.g. House of Commons to learn about the voting system)

Outdoor education

Outdoor education is a big focus for Coxlease School and looks set to develop further with the upcoming appointment of a new outdoor education specialist teacher. We believe learning in the natural environment is hugely beneficial for our young people, which is why we offer a range of activities, including:

  • Surfing
  • Sailing
  • Forest school (Coxlease School is set within the New Forest National Park)
  • Horse riding
  • Mountain biking
  • Environmental forest walks

Community-based clubs and activities

We actively encourage pupils with a particular interest/hobby to continue these activities and can support them to do so. The school has its own transport and funds set aside to help pupils access off-site clubs and societies. Young people from Coxlease School have previously been involved in, for example, Dungeons and Dragons clubs and after school football clubs.

A regular programme of events and rewards

Coxlease School runs a varied events programme throughout the year. This offers our young people regular social and educational opportunities for them as an individual as well as the chance to get together as an active member of the school community. Sample events include:

  • Sports day during the summer term
  • An annual summer celebration day
  • Staff .vs. Pupil football matches
  • Reward trips to Thorpe Park and Chessington World of Adventures
  • Visits from external speakers (e.g. Prison me? No way! And Remembrance Day visitors)
