Clay Hill School believes in creating bespoke learning packages and individual timetables for each of our pupils, based around their abilities, interests and level of need.

Small classes for tailored teaching

Class sizes at Clay Hill School are kept purposely small in order to provide high staff to pupil ratios and individualised learning programmes. On average, we have five pupils per class, although this will vary slightly according to the needs of the young people being taught. Each class will have a minimum of one teacher and one Learning Support Assistant, giving a typical staff to pupil ratio of 2½:1. The school is able to provide 1:1 support for those pupils who require it.

Ofsted have praised the approach we take to learning at Clay Hill School. Comments made during inspections include:

“Activities and approaches are tailor-made for each pupil. These are based on the extensive understanding staff have of autism and their careful discussions with, and observations of, individuals.”

Ofsted, June 2014

“Observations of lessons and pupils’ work show that pupils have made good progress since they arrived at the school.”
