Arden College is made up of several properties around Southport. The main building is in Derby Road, close to the town centre. Here we have specialised classrooms for subjects including art, music and ICT. We also have a large space called The Gallery, which is used for meals, break times and special events. Derby Road also houses the college catering facilities in which students can gain experience working both in the kitchen and front of house.
Multisensory Interactive Learning Environment
Also in Derby Road is the Multisensory Interactive Learning Environment (MILE). This provides a quieter environment and includes our multisensory room and base rooms. Students are able to participate in a range of lessons in this area, including art, life skills, music and gardening skills, all within a familiar environment in which transitions can be minimised.
Arden College also has a property on Oxford Road, close to Birkdale village. This has recently undergone an extensive refurbishment and is used for a number of lessons, including life skills, enrichment and horticulture in the large garden.
The upper floors at Oxford Road form part of our residential provision: here we have three self-contained flats, including two for individual learners.
The college also runs Café Arden, open to the public, in which students can develop skills and gain experience in dealing with customers and preparing meals on an on-demand basis.
The same building also houses the college’s own fully equipped hairdressing salon in which students can learn skills related to hair, beauty and men’s health. Customers also access the salon, providing a realistic working experience for students.
