Activities and facilities

Sheridan School has been specifically designed with the needs of its young people in mind with bright, spacious and modern classrooms and a wealth of open space thanks to its quiet rural setting. The school is divided into four blocks, each for a specific purpose, which helps pupils to easily find their way around the school and minimises transitions during the school day. There are designated blocks for:

  • Specialist autism facilities
  • Primary facilities
  • Secondary facilities
  • Central school facilities (including assembly hall and dining room)

The school also has specially equipped facilities for:

  • Design technology
  • Food technology
  • Drama studio
  • Art studio
  • Sensory room
  • Basketball court

School trips

Sheridan School runs a regular programme of school trips both within the local area and further afield. These trips are offered to encourage our young people to learn within the community as well as to help bring education to life for pupils. Examples of previous popular excursions include visits to:

  • The Supreme Court in London
  • Duxford Imperial War Museum
  • Various local farms
  • High Altitude indoor trampoline park in Norwich
  • Thorpe Woodlands an outdoors adventure centre

Lunchtime clubs

We run several lunchtime clubs throughout the week at Sheridan School to encourage teamwork amongst our young people. These include:

  • Chess club
  • Football club
  • Gardening club
  • Car maintenance club
  • Weekly one-mile walks (following on from the success of the Sport Relief one mile run)

Sporting activities

There is a strong focus on sporting activities at Sheridan School. Our staff team includes a qualified PE teacher who has helped to put in place a wide range of sports activities which our young people can participate in. These include:

  • Football
  • Badminton
  • Rugby
  • Athletics
  • Basketball

We also have access to the sporting facilities at a local school and an on-site basketball court.

The school runs a rolling programme at Thorpe Woodlands outdoor adventure centre during the whole academic year. Every Monday a group of young people from the school attend the purpose-built residential outdoor education facility located in Thetford Forest to participate in group-building activities including:

  • Abseiling
  • Archery
  • Canoeing
  • Caving
  • Climbing
  • High ropes course
  • Kayaking
